Cuevacasteve, named after it's owners Carol & Steve Hancock is a beautiful two bed roomed cave house set on a picturesque hillside just ten minutes walk from the very Spanish Village of Galera, Galera has 2 small Supermarkets, 2 Bakeries, a Chemist, Doctor's Surgery, Museum and about 5 or 6 Bars and Restaurants.
Galera is situated in
an area surrounded by beauty and wildlife; Within a few kilometres drive you can
see; Deserts, Green Valleys, Forests, Limestone Gorges, Castles, Lakes, Spring
fed Swimming Pools complete with Fish. You can see Eagles fly overhead (Our kids
caught them on video our last trip out there and I have put the film on the
DVD!), Wild Boar also roam the area although the local hunters tend to shoot them. One of
the local tapas delicacies is Snails and when asked if they were fair game for
the Hunters one Hunter replied; "No! la gente de Galera es tan reclinada
que los caracoles consiguen lejos!" (Roughly translated; NO the people of Galera
are so laid back that the Snails get away!) just outside Galera (1 kilometre) lies the amazing
Castellón Alto;
a bronze age settlement dating back to around 1600 BC.
In around one and a half hours you can be swimming in the
Mediterranean Sea or exploring
the incredible Alhambra Palace, Skiing on the pist near Granada (winter months
obviously). Or you could just chill out in the sun, swim in the Village Pool
(July & August only), relax during siesta and then take in the enchanting night
life to be found in the village, sample the local wine & tapas, with bottles of
wine to take out for around
€1.50,
nothing back on the bottles I'm afraid.
Activities include Abseiling, Skiing, Rowing, Rock Climbing, Hang Gliding, Bird Watching, Hiking, Biking, Horse Riding, Fishing, Scuba Diving, Canoeing and of course Swimming. For more information on Scuba Diving contact me direct as I am a British Sub Aqua Club Advanced Instructor and have contacts out there, Spanish Dive permits are required to dive anywhere in Spain.
